BIG NEWS! REALLY BIG NEWS!!!

From My Room is going to an online format! We were planning on doing this in the fall when our current lease expires. But our landlord has unexpectedly found a new tenant for our space and we must be out by the end of June. This means our plans for changing our format have greatly accelerated. Our short term focus must necessarily be on moving out in a very short time frame. Our online store is not yet ready so here will be a several month delay while we finish those preparations.

So our short term timeline is as follows:
By Sunday June 5 : All items that consignors want back must be picked up at the store. Note that we can provide you with a list of your available items but you must locate them in the store and bring them to the counter for return processing.
By Sunday June 12: All items in the store will be marked down to clearance prices.
By Sunday June 19: All remaining items in the store will be donated to a charity.
By Sunday June 26: From My Room at 1283 S. Naper Blvd. will be closed.

We apologize for the short notice but we did not foresee this happening. Sometime in the fall we expect to be back – but in a primarily online format which will also include shopping by appointment and events similar to school resale events. We are working with several local merchants to provide convenient drop off locations and may be able to offer pickups of items. We also intend to offer exciting features like online availability of inventory information so you can check the status of your items at any time. Check our website for information as our plans firm up.

We hope you will be patient and help us work through our changing situation. Without a full time storefront we will be able to offer you lower commission rates so that you can end up with more money in your pocket.

If you have any questions about the process for the month of June please call the store at 630-355-8442 during regular business hours. Going forward you can contact me at my current email address at connie@frommyroom.com

Thank you.

It's About Time

Introducing a brand new way to sell: It's About Time

That's the name of our brand new way to sell your items. It's About Time. Why is it called that? Because we deduct a selling fee based on how long the item is in the store. This program is for people who are comfortable listing their own items on selling sites like Craigslist, NapervilleYardSales and eBay. Fees start as low as 5%!

If I Had A Nickel ...

As the former Director of Finance and IT at Northern Illinois Food Bank in St. Charles, I am aware of the struggles to continue to get financial support from the community for even the most basic of charities; those that provide food. In tough economic times such as these, many people are struggling just to keep their own families afloat. Now that I own a resale store I inevitably have a number of items that do not sell and thus I have been donating them to a variety of local charities. I don't know how many of these items ultimately find their way to another person and I was thinking, "If I had a nickel for every one of those items, the charities could benefit from that money." Thus my new program was born.

Here's how it works:
Items that haven't sold in over a year or are slightly damaged in some way are tagged with a special 'If I Had A Nickel' tag. When you make any From My Room purchase, you can choose one of these items and it will ring up as five cents. In addition, we ask that you put in any additional amount to one of our two collection boxes. One is for the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the other for the Naperville Area Humane Society. The donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank will be targeted for their new capital campaign, raising money for a new, much needed facility ( http://www.northernilfoodbank.org/menu-top-getinvolved-capitalcampaign.asp ). The Naperville Area Humane Society will use donated funds in their care of abandoned animals. From My Room will match the amounts collected, thereby doubling the benefit to these charities.

It is our hope that this new program will:
* Make still-usable items available to people in our local community
* Keep these items out of landfills to help the environment
* Draw more attention to the community needs that are addressed by these two charities
* Provide some financial support to two great charities

Thank you for supporting our community.

Recycle! Reuse! Reduce! REWARD!

Reward! Do you have extra plastic hangers (the kind with metal swivel hooks) or large clear vinyl/plastic bags with zippers on them? If so, you can bring them to the store and receive 25 cents store credit for each one we accept. We are especially looking for child-sized hangers right now. Reusable bags are now available at the counter so if you have extras, bring them in to help keep our supply available. They include good condition shopping bags as well as canvas and vinyl ones. We are also accepting packaging materials like styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap. It's great to recycle those items and keep them out of the landfill!
